I read a bunch of turkey hunting articles, and I talk to a lot of turkey talk with people every year. I do this because I enjoy learning and because I am grossly passionate about the sport of turkey hunting. Despite the fact that I know everything about most subjects, you will never hear me claim to know everything about the bird or the sport because I do not. I may know almost everything about the birds where I regularly hunt because I spend a great deal of time with them, but I probably know little about the birds where you hunt. I can probably guess that your birds roost in trees at night and spend the majority of each day on the ground, eating drinking, loafing, and/or mating. Believe it or not, that would be enough knowledge for me to kill a few turkeys on the property that you hunt regularly. Aside from that I am not going to claim to know your birds’ habits and patterns. Every piece of property is different – even if only a small amount.
With all of that being said, I do have one turkey hunting tip that I know will greatly increase your odds of success in the turkey woods. I have done this one action every single time that I have killed a turkey in my life. I’m not telling you that it works 100% of the time that you do it, but I can tell you that it will not work if you do not do it. Are you ready for me to share the #1 No Fail Tip To Kill More Turkeys? You’d better sit down for this one… Go Turkey Hunting!
Pretty earth shattering, huh? I know I may have let you down a little with that tip, but the truth of the matter is you won’t kill a turkey if you are not in the turkey woods. You have to wake up and get out of bed no matter how tired you are and get in the woods or leave work a little early no matter how busy you are and get in the woods. Turkey hunting is a numbers game. The more time you spend in the woods, the more success you’ll have. If you are so tired you need some extra sleep, then get out of bed, get dressed in your camo, and get a nap in the turkey woods. I get some great naps sitting with my back against a tree with my gun propped up on my leg almost daily during turkey season. I have also been awakened from my naps by turkeys who are obviously tired of living in the great outdoors and want to ride home in my truck with me. Those are turkeys that I would not have killed if I was asleep in bed.
So, this is Captain Obvious with his #1 No Fail Tip To Kill More Turkeys telling you to go turkey hunting. There will be time to catch up on your sleep when you are dead!
