The Ocellated wild turkey inhabits the thick jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. There is much to learn about this species of turkey, and there are multiple Ocellated research projects happening right now. The one thing that we do know about the Ocellated wild turkey is that populations are decreasing. The general thought is that the population declines stem from timber harvesting to turn the areas inhabited by the Ocellated into farmland and pastureland as well as subsistence hunting by local populations.
